Montana Principals Conference 2023 Day 2

Opening Keynote:   Lead with Grace -
Jessica Cabeen

Do you love what you do, but at times struggle with the necessary interactions and communication skills that could elevate interactions in all aspects of your life? In recent times we have to learn more about communication in a distance/digital environment and the importance of clear communication.  With so much of our communication relying on the strength of our band-width and lighting from our Zoom filters, learning how to communicate well is more essential than ever.

Jessica shares practical examples from her successes and epic failures of utilizing skills to build authenticity, vulnerability, and empathy in your day to day interactions. Participants will walk away with practical tips and ways to apply these skills in their communications, relationships, and when navigating the world of social media.

School Security: Three Tough Questions!!-
Liz Cunningham, T.E.S.T., Inc. & Joe Monaco, Motorola Solutions

When it comes to security, school districts are faced with three simple but tough questions. What  should we do? How do we prioritize? How do we pay for it?

Aside from a child’s home, schools are viewed as the next safest institution in the community. School  safety and security challenges remain a multilayered and complex issue facing school leaders today.  T.E.S.T., Inc. recognizes there is no single solution to making schools safe. Protecting students and  faculty is an immeasurable moral and legal responsibility that school leadership must address. T.E.S.T.  acknowledges that the “roller-coaster” effect of school policies, community politics, complacency and  inadequate funding are impediments that all school districts face. Security protocols are a fundamental  obligation of school leaders, who face daily pressure to ensure that students are protected, often  without significant security expertise. T.E.S.T.’s mission is to help ensure schools remain a place in which  every student and faculty feels safe and secure from harm.

Please join T.E.S.T. and Motorola Solutions for an overview of a variety of safety and security solutions  that we have helped many schools across Montana implement. T.E.S.T. has built a premiere team of  diverse employees and partners to serve Montana Schools. Join us as we help provide answers for those 3 tough questions!

Leading at Work and Living a
Life -

Jessica Cabeen

Reports of burnout, stress, and compassion fatigue are on the rise. These issues push many out of the profession, leading to high turnover and sub-optimal student outcomes. How can school leaders combat these problems? Leaders can manage their own wellness and priorities. Healthy leaders who learn balance can create motivation, confidence, quality collaboration, and enthusiasm among staff and other stakeholders. Principal in Balance offers principals strategies and tools to take more ownership of their lives at work and home, so everyone in the K–12 educational community can thrive. Participants will walk away with a plan that they can put into action during the summer that is sustainable throughout the school year.
