I want to welcome you to the 2018-2019 school year.  I am honored to be the President of our MASSP group and excited to work with all of you in the upcoming year.  Being a High School Principal for the last seven years has been one of the most rewarding and challenging times in my life.  As many of you know the Principal is a lonely position, and that is the reason I love being in our MASSP group.  I have learned a ton from all the Principal meetings and conferences I have attended and even made a couple of friends along the way.  I am also excited about our MASSP Board and the work we have done in awarding our members.

We have refined the way we select Assistant Principal and Principal of the Year to a nominating process.  The MASSP Board and SAM office have developed a one-page document anyone in your school or community can fill out to nominate a deserving Principal.  We will be sending this document to all of the affiliate groups under the SAM umbrella in the near future.

Those of you who follow school politics also know this is a legislative year.  There are some big battles in Montana for political office as well as National Issues which will effect Montana Principals in the upcoming years.  It is vital for all of us to be informed and understand what is happening in the political world.   Our voice is loud when all are speaking the same words to our politicians.

The SAM Office has a plethora of information on their website, and the office is a phone call away for any question.  Kirk will also send out updates and resources weekly and monthly for your reading pleasure.

Have a fantastic school year, and I look forward to connecting with all of you during the school year.

Respectfully,

Peter Hamilton MASSP President

Principal Polson High School in Polson
