00:11:11 Mike Perry: Go Jessica. You are awesome. 00:11:27 Jess Bryant: Thanks! 00:15:02 Jess Bryant: As we go, please feel free to ask questions in the chat. 00:22:12 Colet Bartow: Slides: https://saom.memberclicks.net/assets/Professional_Learning/SAM_AI_2020/Presentations/PD%20Planning%20to%20Upskill%20Online%20Teaching%20Slides.pptx 00:23:17 Mike Perry: You want us to practice good education pedagogy with our own staff? 00:23:37 Colet Bartow: Yep! Mike you are correct. :) 00:26:13 Colet Bartow: So, for staffing support in remote learning, the mentor or buddy system may be a good way to build staff skills AND better reach all students. 00:28:43 Colet Bartow: Microcredentials or badges in discrete skill sets could be part of individual and district professional growth plans. Identifying gaps and providing self-service or self-directed learning opportunities can pay off quickly. 00:28:47 Carli Cockrell: https://learninghub.jitbit.com/helpdesk/KB The Teacher Learning Hub's Knowledgebase example 00:29:52 Carli Cockrell: Haha Mike :) 00:33:53 Colet Bartow: Like Paul Andersen said yesterday, online pedagogy and remote learning are not the same, BUT good teaching is good teaching. The difference is where/how it happens. 00:37:03 Colet Bartow: The tech is not the outcome. Truth. 00:38:54 Colet Bartow: https://www.nsqol.org/ 00:41:57 Carli Cockrell: It's a dream of ours! :) 00:42:16 Carli Cockrell: https://saom.memberclicks.net/samai-session4b For the Take-Away List 00:43:25 Colet Bartow: If you attended the interoperability session, these standards may become available in the CASE Network in a machine-readable form. So, if that happens, that will enable us to develop Badges associated with these standards for Teacher Learning Hub courses. We'll just injest the file, associate course outcomes and evidence with the standards, and award skill-specific badges when educators complete Hub courses. https://casenetwork.imsglobal.org/cfdoc/ 00:46:20 Colet Bartow: https://mtplportal.org/ 00:47:08 Colet Bartow: Digital Promise https://digitalpromise.org/initiative/educator-micro-credentials/ 00:48:35 Jason Slater: We found the MTDA framework was very helpful last Spring. 00:48:44 Colet Bartow: One thought is to create a menu of choices based on the known skill gaps in your staff. 00:48:54 Colet Bartow: Thanks Jason! 00:55:27 Jason Slater: Share control, and be flexible. (Tough for Type A administration). Guilty 00:57:27 Colet Bartow: It is tough, Jason--the buck often stops with the leader in dramatic ways. Planning, shared accountability for sticking to the plan. and doing what Jamie said about telling your story can help. 00:57:34 Mike Perry: We aren't handling it, that's why we look the way we do right now. 00:57:51 Jess Bryant: You look great, Mike! 00:58:16 Carli Cockrell: Mike - you could be Jerry Seinfeld. :) 01:00:08 Joe Steele: We used Better Lessons, which was good for the teachers that used it, but it is pricey. We are now looking at a program Cognia (formerly AdvanceEd) is partnering with called LincSpring. It provides coaching and individual PD for staff. 01:00:35 Mike Perry: I feel like Jerry in the Kenny Rogers chicken episode when he flips rooms with Kramer. 01:00:42 Colet Bartow: Cognia has some really good stuff to access. 01:00:50 Jason Slater: One challenge is not asking our classroom teachers to be doing double duty, providing online courses at the same time as in person. We are considering synchronous vs asynchronous instruction. How do we support staff and gear up for either or both of these platforms. 01:01:54 Carli Cockrell: I have heard great things about Better Lesson, Joe! 01:02:08 Mike Perry: I know it's a money thing but we are looking at repurposing some of our staff, ie. elective teachers, to focus on the online learning portion. 01:02:41 Carli Cockrell: Also, consider how Title II-A funds may benefit your PD programming, as well! 01:03:04 Jason Slater: Great points, I would focus on synchronous vs asynchronous. 01:03:49 Jason Slater: Development of content, deliver of content, and assessment for and of learning. 01:03:58 Colet Bartow: That mentoring model and sharing common assessments, activities, etc. can help teachers with different skills and content expertise. 01:04:27 Carli Cockrell: Funding options for PD - this website is a great place to start - http://opi.mt.gov/Leadership/Academic-Success/Administrators-Professional-Learning 01:04:50 Joe Steele: We discussed just broadcasting the in-class teaching to those at home, but there are FERPA a concerns, plus union issues with video recording in the classroom. 01:08:48 Jason Slater: For sure, being flexible is huge and building a digital ecosystem will help for years to come. 01:09:29 Jason Slater: Thank you guys, great sessional. 01:09:40 Sarah Hays: Thank you! 01:10:40 Colet Bartow: Huge congrats to the SAM team for making this conference possible! We have learned so much from the structure, the content, and the connections between participants. 01:10:43 Mike Perry: Great job OPI presenters. 01:10:47 Chuck Gameon: Thank you! Another great session at the conference. Thanks to all of the SAM office. 01:11:29 Carli Cockrell: @Jason, regarding your question related to planning for asynchronous and synchronous - the universities have some good ideas with this, and I'm happy to chat about this more. Essentially, you could have teachers to think about what they would do asynchronously and make sure they have those, but then in the event that it is synchronous, they could still use those items in the classroom. It still is a bit double duty, though.
